Pharmacy owners strike today

By Correspondent

NAGAON, Oct 13 - All medicine dealers here, like their counterparts in other parts of the country, are going to observe a one-day strike tomorrow in protest against the Central Governments decision to start e-pharmacies. The Nagaon unit of All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) reasoned that the proposed e-pharmacies would facilitate the easy collection of harmful drugs by youths, and that the standard of medicines may deteriorate. Further, life-saving medicines may become scarce in villages, it said, adding that 40 lakh families which depend on medicine retailing will be directly affected by the Centres move.

The medicine dealers of the district will take part in the strike in view of this, said president Prahlad Banik, secretary Jiban Banik and publicity secretary Rubul Sharma of the district unit of the AIOCD. However, four pharmacies namely, Life Care, Hospital Road, Central Medical Hall, Panigaon, Assam Medical, Haiborgaon, and Monir Drugs, Dhing Road, will remain open during the strike.
