Phaat Bihu celebration at Dhakuakhana

DHEMAJI, May 5 - Brisk preparations are on to celebrate the Phaat Bihu at Dhakuakhana, the most famous and historic Bihu of the greater area at Mohghuli Chapari here from May 6 with a three-day programme. Mohghuli Chapari, the permanent place for the Phaat Bihu celebration on the north bank of the river Charikaria has already been attractively decorated.

As per the schedule, the historic Phaat Bihu function will begin on May 6 morning with flag hoisting by Pradip Chamuah, president, Phaat Bihu committee and it will be followed by smriti tarpan by Lila Chamuah, president, celebration committee. Then Bihu mancha will be inaugurated by veteran social worker Tilen Chamuah.

At noon Taka Bihu contest will be held. It will be inaugurated by educationist Meera Gogoi. At 2 pm, a website for Phaat Bihu will be opened by a prominent cultural worker of Dhakuakhana, Jagdish Gogoi. It will be followed by Chemonia Husori competition.

The second day�s programme will begin with kapou phool and tree plantation at 9 am which will be followed by phulam gamocha and husori contests. In the afternoon, Bihuwan, the yearly souvenir of Phaat Bihu will be released by Dr Kamal Gogoi, principal, Moridhal College.

On the concluding day, a colourful cultural procession with various ethnic cultural exhibits will be taken out at 9.30 am. It will be flagged off by artist Gayatri Mahanta. The most attractive Mukali Bihu contest of Phaat Bihu celebration will be held at noon and it will be followed by the open session of the celebration.

The open session to be inaugurated by noted litterateur Nanda Sing Borkalai will be graced by veteran journalist Haidor Hussain as chief guest and it will be attended by Bihu researcher Jiban Gharpfalia as the appointed speaker.

On the other hand, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MP Ranee Narah and Lurinjyoti Gogoi, secretary of All Assam Students� Union will attend the open session as guests of honour while a top official of Cultural Affairs Department of Assam Government Pritom Saikia, Padma Shri Aranya Manab Jadav Payeng, Lakhimpur DC Debeswar Malakar, SP Vivekraj Sing and SDO(Civil), Dhakuakhana Debashis Boishya will be present as distinguished guests.

Apart from these, Dr Ratnuttama Das, professor, Delhi University, musician Mitali Dey and writer Bharat Handique are scheduled to attend the open meeting as invited guests.

The celebration committee has solicited the presence and co-operation of all the people irrespective of caste and community for the grand success of the Phaat Bihu celebration.
