GUWAHATI, Jan 2 - The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) will resort to a general strike in the region on January 8 and 9 protesting the Central governments anti-people and anti-trade union policies.
The working class has been suffering because of various policies of the Narendra Modi government. The government and oil companies have been turning their back to various demands of the petroleum workers, including minimum wages, social security, etc, APMU general secretary Ramen Das said.
Das said, while the workers have been contributing to the countrys development, they have always been neglected by the authorities and the government has been using its police force to curb the working class movement.
The general strike will begin at 6 am on January 8 and continue till 6 am of January 10. During the strike, the workers will not transport petroleum products in the region.
