By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 29 - The State finance department today launched a massive citizen awareness programme seeking suggestions for the budget 2018-19.

The first-of-its-kind outreach programme under the leadership of Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was launched simultaneously at select educational institutes in Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Dhemaji and Golaghat districts. The programme will gradually spread to 12 other districts covering 42 schools, colleges and universities over a period of one week.

The interactive session at KC Das Commerce College was chaired by VB Pyarelal, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Assam. Another participative session at the Gauhati University was presided over by Samir K Sinha, Principal Secretary, Finance Department. The programme at the Royal Global University was chaired by Shyam Jagannathan, Commissioner and Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Assam.

This year, the Government of Assam has taken a multi-dimensional approach to call for suggestions from citizens. The general public can share their budget ideas on assam.mygov.in and the finance department website finance.assam.gov.in till February 16, 2018.

Assam Budget 2018-19 intends to propel the State into the realm of e-budget, instead of the conventional paper-based one. With this, Assam will join a handful of states that could successfully implement e-budget. Earlier, budget copies were printed for the Members of the Legislative Assembly, departments, media and common citizens.

From March this year, everybody across the State can access every bit of budget-related information with just a click of the computer mouse or mobile screen touch. In another big change, which will be a boost to different sectors, the Assam Budget 2018-19 will lay significant stress on the girl child, divyang and elderly people to ensure empowerment, equality and a better life for these sections of society.
