IMPHAL, Sept 25 - The Coalition for Indigenous Rights Campaign (CIRCA), Manipur along with Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) and Assam Meetei Apunba Lup (AMAL) will jointly organise a Peoples� Parliament of all the indigenous communities and ethnic groups of the Northeastern region in November this year.
Disclosing this at a press conference at Manipur Press Club here on Friday, spokesperson of CIRCA, Lancha Ningthouja said the Peoples� Parliament will be organised with a vision to resolve all issues and threats faced by the indigenous communities and ethnic groups of the region through a collective and unified effort in the line of United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) 2007.
He said the decision to convene the Parliament was decided following a discussion between the said three organisations today considering the impact of illegal migrations and influx of population on the social, economic and political rights of the indigenous people in the region.
It also resolved to face the problem collectively by bringing together all the indigenous people of the region under one common umbrella as the indigenous communities of NE region are on the verge of vanishing from its own land due to illegal influx.
Working president Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha Matiur Rahman said that the whole of North East is in grave danger in view of the infiltration of illegal foreigners. He informed that the Supreme Court in 2005 had declared that the illegal foreigners� problem is a �Silent Aggression.� He said it is the duty of the Central Government to save the region from the silent aggression as per Article 355 of the Constitution of India.
He further said that the Mahasangha has repeatedly appealed the Central Government in this regard but that there is no response from the government.
