People voting for change, says Sonowal

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 4 - The enthusiasm of the voters in the first phase of elections proved that the people are voting for a change. This was the observation of the State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sarbananda Sonowal.

Talking to The Assam Tribune after the first phase of polls, Sonowal, who is the BJPs chief ministerial candidate, said that his party is confident of a very good performance in the first phase of polls. He pointed out that people came out in large numbers spontaneously to cast their votes. The participation of the people in the electoral process has proved beyond doubt that they were fed up with the misrule of the Congress, and so came out to vote for a change. The people have realised that only the BJP can provide a transparent and good Government to Assam, he added.

Sonowal appealed to the people of the State to show the same kind of enthusiasm during the second phase of polls on April 11, and to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

On his own performance in Majuli constituency, Sonowal said that he was confident of winning the seat. He said that the poll percentage in Majuli was all-time high and even the voters who work elsewhere in the country, returned home to cast their votes. I am overwhelmed by such response from the people and I am confident of victory by a large margin, Sonowal said.

The State BJP president said that member of Parliament Kamakhya Prasad Tassa did very well against Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in Titabar constituency. He said that Tassa is likely to win the seat.

Sonowal further claimed that the BJP's performance in Barak valley would improve considerably. He pointed out that in the last Assembly polls, the BJP managed to win only one seat in Barak Valley. But the situation is much different this time and the BJP's performance would improve considerably.
