GOLAKGANJ, Sept 6 - The Public Health and Engineering Department (PHE) have allegedly failed to supply potable water in various parts of Dhubri district despite implementation of several schemes worth crore of rupees.
Due to the apathy, people in many parts of the district are facing drinking water problems. In Dhubri subdivision, many people have become victims of various waterborne diseases and fluoridated water.
In places like Adabari, Dharmasala, Ghewmari, Kalahat, Kismathasdah, Durahati, Golakganj, Agomani, Chagolia, Dhepdhepi, Dumardoha, under Dhubri subdivision, people are aging before their time. The miserable plight of the people in these places had been highlighted by the media many a times, but the PHE Department didn�t take any step to tackle the problem.
Earlier, the PHE Minister, Gautam Roy, had visited these areas and given assurance to the people that effective measures would be taken in this regard, but all in vain. Natives of Dharmasala, Adabari, Golakganj, Lakhimari, Asarikandi, Ghewmari, Kalahat, Kismathasdah, Durahati, Agomani, Chagolia, Dhepdhepi, Dumardaha villages are left with no option but to drink water containing fluoride.
As a result, they are suffering from toothache, back pain, hair fall and other health problems. If the department does not take proper initiative to filter the fluoride contaminated water in these areas division, the situation is only expected to worsen.
