People asked to follow storm advisory

GUWAHATI, March 4 - With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) having forecast the possibility of storm in Kamrup Metro district and adjoining areas, the district administration today said that it has taken the necessary preparedness measures.

The administration has issued an advisory on storm and appealed to the public of the district to follow the advisory.

The administration has called upon the citizens to make their houses safe by undertaking repair of houses if they have tin roof or if there are loose nails, holes, leaks and rusty areas in the roof.

People have been told to remove dead branches or dying trees in their yards which could blow about and cause damage to their house.

To keep the people safe during the storm season, the administration has asked citizens not to venture and instead stay indoors during storm, not to take shelter in small sheds and under isolated trees. In case anybody is outside, he or she has been asked to take shelter in a safe structure.

In case if anybody is driving a car during storm, they have been asked to park in a safe place away from power lines and trees.

The district administration has also issued toll free numbers where citizens can contact in case of any storm related emergency. The toll-free numbers are 1077, 7399003001, 7399003002, 7399003003 and 7399003004.
