�Pending dues of NCHAC employees to be cleared�

HAFLONG, July 10 - Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the State government will clear all pending dues of the employees of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) by a special grant. This was conveyed at a meeting held at Haflong circuit house during his two-day visit to Dima Hasao accompanied by HAD Minister Sum Ronghang and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang in the presence of NCHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa and MLA BB Hagjer.

The minister said that revenue augmentation of the NCHAC will be done so that there is no further crisis regarding salaries. Proper formulation of revenue from various resources like Forests, APGCL, NEEPCO etc., will be taken into observation so that the council has self- sustenance capacity like the other autonomous councils, he said referring to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Bodoland Territorial Council.

While reviewing the Medical department activities and conditions, Dr Sarma announced that an intensive care unit (ICU) will be set up at the Haflong Civil Hospital soon, the funds for which will be provided by the Assam government. The long-standing necessity of the ANM hostel will also be soon resolved with the setting up of a 80-bed hostel.

For promotion of the tourist inflow, there will be government tourist lodges at three places� Haflong, Jatinga and Umrangso which is to be implemented jointly by Tourism department and the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC).

Taking into consideration of the growing demand for seats in colleges, he said science stream will be introduced in Maibang College and the number of seats will be increased in Haflong Govt College. He also asserted that the long-pending construction work of the polytechnic college in Chotowapu shall soon begin.

�An additional package amounting to Rs 50 crore for roads was announced and the construction work of five roads between Haflong to Dihangi, Umrangso to Diyungmukh, Kalachand-Khepre Road, Mahur-Laisong-Raja Bazar, Maibang to Shemkhor shall begin soon�, he said. He further announced an additional amount of Rs 100 crore for development fund under NCHAC.

The ministers had a meeting with the representatives of various organisations and apex bodies of different communities. During an extensive discussion held with the indigenous people�s forum, the Minister stated that though all demands put forward by the organisation may not be fulfilled, other ways can be found for a common agreement in view of the larger interest of the people of the district.

The ministers, accompanied by the MLA BB Hagjer, CEM NCHAC Debolal Gorlosa and CEM KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang, other NCHAC Executive Members and DC Amitabh Rajkhowa and Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia inaugurated several new projects such as the early intervention centres under RBSK and NHM, organic food market complex at Town committee field, district medical drugs warehouse, Tularam Fitness centre etc.
