DIMAPUR, Jan 25 - Medha Patkar, well-known social activist who led the Narmada Bachao Andolan will be in Dimapur later this week to address a meet on economic empowerment and justice to the marginalised.
Tushar Arun Gandhi, great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Paul Buenode Mesquita, Director, Centre for Non-violence and Peace Studies, University of Rhode Island, USA will also present their papers at the 2nd National Peace Convention from January 30 to February 1.
It will be organised by National Peace Movement in collaboration with Rotary International District, North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research, Peace Channel, Universal Solidarity Movement and other like-minded organisations.
A galaxy of eminent persons from across the country including social activists, educationists, Rotarians, journalists, writers, NGO representatives and people who work for peace and universal solidarity will also take part in the convention.
The National Peace Movement in India was formally launched on April 16, 2015, at a meeting at Universal Solidarity Movement Hall, Indore. The participants from all over India had a unanimous resolution to launch a National Movement and decided to hold a National Peace Convention every year, starting from January 30, 2016.
The objectives of the event are to create a platform for the people of different parts of the country to experience friendship and fellowship with the people of North Eastern Region of our country; to provide a platform for the youth learn more about other cultures and share the understanding of practices and lifestyles of the region to the rest of the country; and to enable collective sharing and learning on issues related to conflicts, conflict resolution and transformation by drawing examples from different communities.
