PDS rice seized from Dalgaon Madrassa

By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Aug 20 - Personnel from Dalgaon Police Station in Darrang district reportedly seized a large quantity of rice under the Public Distribution System (PDS) from the campus of a madrassa on charges of hoarding, illegal sale and unauthorised transportation.

According to reports available, a section of socially responsible local people on Monday witnessed an auto pick-up van carrying some bags of rice inside the Dalgaon Madrassa, where the bags were subsequently unloaded.

The local people on inquiry came to know that the consignment of 26 bags of rice each weighing 50 kg was actually allotted for the poor beneficiary families under Kalyan Cooperative Society under Dalgaon Police Station.

The matter was immediately brought to the notice of Dalgaon police, who subsequently seized the smuggled rice.

Meanwhile, local people, including a section of members of the Cooperative Society alleged that an unholy nexus between a section of office-bearers of the Society and rice smugglers, which is patronised by a member of the Society, has been going on for long.

However, every time the corrupt office-bearers managed to slither away by conveniently managed official documents. Some two months back in a similar situation, locals with the help of police seized forty four bags of PDS rice allotted to the same Cooperative Society from the campus of a private rice mill and even then no visible action as per law has allegedly been executed.
