PDA pledges support to Naga integration issue

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, Aug 11 - The Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government of Nagaland today affirmed its support to the issue of integration of all contiguous Naga-inhabited areas, which was earlier passed as resolutions in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on four occasions.

The PDA appealed to the neighbouring States to appreciate the history and democratic rights of the Naga people under a spirit of mutual respect so that we can live together as good neighbours under an environment of harmonious co-existence and brotherhood.

Adopting a six-point resolution at a meeting of its MLAs and the coordination committee held at the State Banquet Hall in Kohima, the PDA said it has been supporting the legitimate and democratic rights of the people consistently.

The PDA coalition Government reiterated that it would continue to play the role of an active facilitator in the ongoing political negotiations between the Government of India and the Naga national political groups. It appealed to the negotiating parties, especially the Government of India, to expedite the peace process and respond to the voice of the people by bringing about a political solution that is honourable and acceptable to the people, at the earliest.

The PDA further reiterated its commitment to pave the way for an alternative arrangement that may arise from the political agreement.

We urge all sections of the Naga society to come together under a spirit of unity and oneness, so that together we strengthen the peace process and create an environment that is congenial for successful conclusion of the ongoing negotiations, it stated.

The PDA Government thanked the Government of India and the Central agencies for their positive response and timely intervention during the time of natural calamities in the State. The PDA also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the entire government machinery in extending assistance for relief and rehabilitation.
