PC reiterates Maoist presence in State

NEW DELHI, June 29 � Reiterating the presence of Maoists in Assam, Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram however, denied the existence of LeT in the State.

�I have already confirmed about Maoists presence in Assam. But I can�t confirm about existence of LeT. I don�t know on what basis the DGP said this. �We will discuss this with him and there is constant discussion with the State Government,� Chidambaram said, replying to questions.

India has meanwhile, has asked Myanmar to launch a flush out operation targeting rebels of the North Eastern States.

Myanmar has agreed to make operational the third border level officer meeting point between Changlang and Pan Hsan by October, Chidambaram said, presenting his monthly report on Friday.

About the progress of the India-Bangladesh border works, Chidambaram said 7 Km of fencing and border roads under Phase II of the Project. Poles for floodlighting were erected on the length of 18 Km and cables were laid on 18 Km stretch during the month, the Home Minister reported.

Meanwhile, Chidambaram said there is no change in stated position on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. The Act must be amendment, he said.
