PC likely to be in-charge of Assam

NEW DELHI, March 27 � Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram is likely to be appointed as the new coordinator in-charge of Assam, as general secretary in-charge Dr CP Joshi relinquished his charge to contest elections.

The Union Finance Minister has opted out of the Lok Sabha elections, nominating his son Karti Chidambaram from his constituency Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu.

AICC sources said Chidambaram is likely to be appointed as coordinator for Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand, the States that were held by Dr Joshi.

Joshi, former Union Rural Development Minister and AICC general secretary, is contesting from Jaipur (Rural). He is a sitting MP from Bhilwara in Rajasthan.

Chidambaram had announced ahead of the polls that he was willing to make way for the younger generation. He had won by a narrow margin from Sivaganga.
