Patowary inaugurates �Battery Vehicle Tech Expo�

GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary inaugurated the three-day �Battery Vehicle Tech Expo� at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here today.

Altogether, 28 electric vehicle companies from across the country, including one each from China and Japan are participating in the expo.

The Minister also inaugurated the office of the Chairman, Assam Trade Promotion Organisation (ATPO) at the trade centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Patowary underlined the importance of e-rickshaws in connecting every nook and corner of the State. He also said e-rickshaws can open new vistas of employment to a large extent. Appreciating different technical benefits of e-rickshaws, he said it is one of the most eco-friendly vehicles used as pubic carriers.

The Minister stated that the e-rickshaw would be included for funding under the Prime Minister�s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the upcoming Swami Vivekananda Assam Youth Empowerment (SVAYEM) scheme of the Industries and Commerce Department, so that it can be a source of income for unemployed youths.

Reiterating that Assam is the gateway to South-East Asia, Patowary said, �If you think of investment, think Assam� while calling on global traders to invest and set up production centres in the State.
