Patient comfort floor at Cleft Care Centre

GUWAHATI, April 2 � The Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Care Centre, opened in 2011 and run under the public-private partnership mode with Operation Smile India, has developed into a premier cleft care centre.

The centre is the result of a PPP venture between Operation Smile India, Government of Assam and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), and is supported by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust.

To enhance the comfort level of patients and to give them better facilities, a new accommodation � �Patient Comfort Floor� � was inaugurated above the existing facility by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday.

The centre has been operating at the MMC Hospital and has carried out close to 13,500 safe surgeries of children and adults in Assam and adjoining states till date. The institution has also come to be regarded as a centre of excellence for academics and research.

The Chief Minister was also felicitated for his leadership in a successful PPP model of delivery in the health sector, by Ranjit Barthakur, the immediate past chairman of Operation Smile India.

In his speech, the Chief Minister lauded the efforts of Operation Smile.

Also present on the occasion were Dr Nazrul Islam, Health and Family Welfare Minister; Jitesh Khosla, Chief Secretary; Dr Rashmi Taneja, the new chairperson of Operation Smile India and senior officers from the Health Department, who were also felicitated.
