Paswan to review NE PDS system on Feb 13

GUWAHATI, Feb 10 � The Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan will review the Public Distribution System in the North East in a meeting here on February 13, an official release stated here today.

Strengthening of PDS in the North East is a priority for the Central government. Necessary reforms in PDS are being taken to ensure implementation of the National Food Security Act. These include creation of more foodgrain storage in North-East, doorstep delivery of foodgrains to fair price shops (FPSs), full transparency of records and computerisation of the system, the release added. The minister will also review Lumding-Badarpur BG conversion work of Railways regarding transportation of foodgrains.

Before that, Paswan will also chair the consultative committee meeting of Consumer Affairs on February 12 to discuss working of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) which is trying to develop standards for identified products under �Make in India� programme. In line with the government�s �Swachh Bharat Abhiyan�, development of standards on municipal solid waste in also being undertaken by BIS on priority.

Both the meetings will be attended by Members of Parliament attached to the committees and senior officials of the Ministry and other Central departments, the release added.
