Parties speed up preparations in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, March 22 - In a bid to boost the campaign for the Congress candidates in Barak Valley, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will reach Silchar on March 23 and take part in a number of public meetings across the valley. Former Rajya Sabha MP and now president of Silchar District Congress committee Karnendu Bhattacharjee said that Chief Minister will attend a meeting at Ratabari constituency under Karimganj district and also at Leburband under Borkhola constituency. Further, Bhattacharjee informed that APCC president Anjan Dutta will also reach Silchar on March 24 and attend meeting at Karimganj, Sonai Dholai and Katigorah.

�The party is gearing up for the battle for ballots and with top leadership arriving to campaign for the candidates, we expect a positive result in the forthcoming elections,� Bhattacharjee said.

Meanwhile, cadres of the three district units of BJP are preparing hard for the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Barak Valley. After repeated discussions and inspections, the district units of BJP in Barak Valley have finalised Kalinagar under Hailakandi constituency to be the venue for the mega meeting of Prime Minister scheduled to be held on March 27. BJP state spokesperson Audesh Kumar Singh told reporters here that Prime Minister will be on a two-day visit to Assam starting March 26. Singh said that Modi will address meetings at Majuli, Bihpuriya, Tinsukia, Bokakhat and Jorhat on March 26 and will reach Silchar on March 27 after addressing meetings at Rangapara and Tezpur.
