SILCHAR, Jan 16 With the State Election Commission declaring that election for 32 municipalities and 42 town committees across the State will be held on February 10, political parties in Silchar have started planning strategies for the forthcoming polls for Silchar Municipal Board.
Upbeat with the recent performances across the nation and also in the recent Assembly bypoll, the Bharatiya Janata Party is confident of forming the civic board with a thumping majority. In the words of Deepayan Chakraborty, BJP Silchar Town Mandal president, this is the time for the BJP to cash in and the party cadres are looking forward for a victory. We will provide candidates for all the 28 municipal wards and strongly believe that the mandate will be in our favour, he said.
On the other hand, even as Arun Dutta Mazumder, president of Silchar District Congress Committee agreed that there was the Modi Wave in the Lok Sabha and also in the Assembly elections, but he was quick to add that no such wave will be a factor in the civic polls. The denizens of Silchar witnessed significant development across the town during the regime. The developments will speak for us this time as well, the DCC president affirmed. Announcing that the party will field candidates in all the wards, Dutta Mazumder made it clear that public relations and popularity will determine who gets to contest from respective wards. He said that the Congress is not yet projecting its candidate for the post of chairperson. Meanwhile, the CPM has had rounds of meeting with the party members regarding the election.
