GUWAHATI, Jan 3 Hundreds of members of seven opposition political parties staged a sit-in demonstration at the Lakhidhar Bora Kshetra here today in support of their demand for adequate supply of relief materials, providing security and proper rehabilitation to those taking shelter in refugee camps after the recent violence in Sonitpur and BTAD areas.

The parties that took part in the demonstration included AGP, CPI, CPI-M, CPI-ML, NCP, Samajwadi Party and UPF.

The demonstrators criticised the State Government for its failure to check the violent incidents, at an impromptu meeting held at the site of the demonstration.

Addressing the meeting, AGP president Atul Bora demanded steps to seize all illegal arms from the BTAD areas. He laid stress on resolving the political issues politically.

The meeting was also addressed by senior CPI-M leader Hemen Das, Samajwadi Partys State president HRA Choudhury, NCPs State president Ripunjoy Bora, CPIs State secretary Bhogeswar Dutta and UPFs Suresh Saikia.
