Participation in Sr I-D soccer mandatory

GUWAHATI, June 23 � The Assam Football Association (AFA), in its governing body meeting held here today, has resolved to make it mandatory for all the affiliated districts to take part in the senior inter- district championship.

The meeting decided that if any district does not take part in the senior inter-district meet, it will be fined Rs 5,000 for the first year and if they continue to do so in the next year the district will be disqualified.

The AFA members were also not satisfied with the performance of the State team in the Santosh Trophy. The State football body today constituted a panel to monitor the performance of the senior team and prepare schemes through which things could be improved.

The AFA also decided to allow the players who play leagues in other places, to represent their home districts in senior I-D championship.

The meeting also finalised the venues for different inter-district tournaments. Accordingly the U-13 boys I-D will be organised in four different zones � Nalbari, Charaideo, Lakhipur, Dhakuakhana and the finals will be conducted at Charaideo. The sub-junior and junior I-D tournaments were allocated to Sadia and Karimganj respectively while the Assam Club Championship will be hosted by Gossaigaon.

The venue for the senior I-D is not yet to be decided as the AFA officials are planning to organise it in zonal basis.

The girls� U-17 and U-19 inter-districts will be held at Karbi Anglong and Goalpara respectively while the senior I-D will be staged by Kokrajhar.

The website of AFA was demonstrated during the meeting and it will be launched soon, informed AFA secretary Ankur Dutta.
