Parliament mourns death of sitting member from Manipur

NEW DELHI, March 13 - Parliament paid tributes to sitting MP from Manipur Haji Abdul Salam and some former members, including former Lok Sabha Speaker Rabi Ray, who passed away recently.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Thursday without transacting any business as a mark of respect to its member Salam who passed away on February 28 at the age of 69. He was representing Manipur in the Upper House since April 2014.

�In the passing away of Salam, the country has lost a distinguished parliamentarian, an able administrator and a dedicated social worker,� Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari said in his obituary reference.

As a mark of respect to the departed member, silence was observed in both the Houses for some time. � PTI
