Paresh Barua asked to give up arms

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, April 8 - Senior journalist DN Chakravartty has called upon ULFAs C-in-C Paresh Barua to give up arms and come overground and embark upon a non-violent reason-based revolution to secure the rightful dues for Assam from the Government of India.

In a statement here, Chakravartty said that during the last 38 years of the purposeless and futile man-hunting armed agitation for political emancipation of Asam, the ULFA had inflicted colossal losses in terms of blood and money of Assam.

Chakravartty said that it was time for the ULFA to renounce its wrong path and join the mainstream of national reconstruction. He reminded Paresh Barua that the ULFA had in its struggle drained out over Rs 50,000 crore because of the departure of businessmen and industrialists from Assam, who left its territory with money and machines only because of the threats and repression of the ULFA.
