Panjuri lynching incident condemned

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 18 - The Madhya Pradesh Assam Association organised a candlelight protest in Bhopal at MP Nagar on Sunday to condole the death of the two Assamese youths, Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, who were lynched by a mob after being mistaken as child lifters at Panjuri under Dokmoka Police Station in Karbi Anglong recently.

It is worth condemning that people are being killed after being influenced by rumours and superstitions even in this day and age. We are saddened by the fact that the two friends, who had gone for a short vacation to Karbi Anglongs Dokmoka, became victims of fake social media reports and had to lose their lives in such a barbaric manner, the Association said in a statement.

While condemning such acts of mindless mayhem in the strongest possible terms, it also extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the two young men. The Association also called upon all concerned to remain vigilant so that such stray incidents cannot break the unity of the people of Assam. The bond shared by 16 different communities will continue to grow even stronger every passing day, the statement added.
