It has not yet been decided when the report would be submitted to the Central government.

Hussain said the committee was mandated with a task which has been completed within the stipulated time-frame, although a months extension was given which was to expire on February 15.

The members did not disclose the content, but said the nearly-150 page report has the definition of Assamese people and has a number of recommendations for effective implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

The 13-member committee headed by Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma was constituted in July last year to examine the effectiveness of actions taken since 1985 to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord and to assess the appropriate level of reservation of seats in Assam Legislative Assembly and local bodies for the indigenous people. Views of political parties were also sought. Members of the committee also visited different parts of the State including Kokrajhar, Silchar, Tezpur, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Diphu, Haflong etc to meet cross sections of people and organizations to obtain their views.
