NEW DELHI, Feb 2: The Committee on Subordinate Legislation has extended the time for submission of the rules of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

In a Lok Sabha reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai said that the rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 are under preparation. The Committees on Subordinate Legislation, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have granted extension of time up to April 9 and July 9, respectively, to frame these rules under the CAA.

The CAA has been notified on December 12, 2019 and has come into force with effect from January 10, 2020.

As reported, it was the delay in framing of the rules by the Centre led to the delay in implementation of CAA.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday said that the recommendations of the Clause 6 Committee, is under examination of the State Government.

In reply to a question by Abdul Khaleque and Pradyut Bordoloi, Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy said that a High Level Committee was constituted to examine the effectiveness of steps taken since 1985 and on steps required to be taken for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

The Committee that held 36 meetings, submitted its report to the Government of Assam. The recommendations are under examination of the State Government, the Minister said.
