GUWAHATI, Feb 1 � As part of the diamond jubilee year celebration programme of the New Art Players, a panel discussion was organised today on the topic �Globalisation � the Indian angle� at the Vivekananda Kendra here today.
The discussion was organised in memory of Late Pradip Bordoloi, founder member and ex-president of New Art Players.
Noted economist Professor Dilip Kumar Barua, who moderated the discussion, said that while globalisation has opened doors for trade activities, it has also posed various questions regarding its impact on the underdeveloped and developing countries.
�We often come across questions like whether globalisation has made the economy more market dependant, whether its focus on the purchasing capacity of the consumers has relegated the quality of commodities to the backburner, and whether it has an impact on the growing crime rate in the world,� he added.
Speaking as a panelist, former bureaucrat HN Das put forward the examples of various countries, which have reaped the benefits of globalisation. �From a huge country like China, to many small countries of the world, there are numerous examples of the positive impact of globalisation. On the other hand, it has also worsened the situation in some of the African countries,� he said. In the context of India, he suggested a well coordinated effort to adopt the positive sides of globalisation.
Other panellists included journalists Samudra Gupta Kashyap and Manjit Mahanta and educationist Uddipana Goswami.
Earlier, Dipok Kumar Barthakur, president of New Art Players delivered the welcome speech. Remembering the versatile personality of Pradip Bordoloi, he said Bordoloi had a deep sense of social responsibility that was reflected in his actions.
