Pallav scores 90, Assam 213/4

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 8 Riding on a solid 90 by opener Pallav Das and some courageous batting by middle order batsmen enabled Assam to reach 213 for 4 on the opening day of the 4-day Group C Ranji Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh.

Due to bad light only 73 overs play was possible today..

Put into bat at the Nehru Stadium here today, Assam openers Pallav and captain Dheeraj Jadhav made a confident start and remained unbeaten in 19 overs at the lunch break taking the team total to 40.

But in the second session Assam lost two wickets in the form of Dheeraj (17) and Pritam Debnath (22). Sib Sankar Roy joined Pallav and added 60 runs for the third wicket partnership before Pallav was out for 90. Pallav, perhaps a victim of nervus 90, faced 186 balls and remained at the crease for long 253 minutes. He also hit 15 boundaries.

Sib Sankar was also seen quite comfortable against the Himachal attack but suddenly he lost his patience and offered a simple catch to Gurvinder Singh off his own bowling at his individual total of 32.

However, Amit Sinha and Tarjinder Singh put up a spirited show and added 41 runs for the unbeaten fifth wicket partnership. Amit and Tarjinder are at the crease with 20 and 26 respectively.
