Palatana to be operational by June

AGARTALA, April 9 � The first unit of 726 MW Palatana power project will be commissioned by June and the next unit is expected to come up in September, said OTPC Managing Director SK Dubey.

The Rs 35,000 crore project will be ready for power generation by June 30 keeping in mind the way works are going at Palatana site, he said in the backdrop of Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey�s visit to the site on Sunday.

The Minister along with Chief Secretary SK Panda and CMD of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) visited Patalana project site to review the progress of the works. During the visit, the Minister attended a meeting with senior officials of OTPC and BHEL. GK Bora, Addl GM of BHEL gave a power point presentation before the Minister to make him aware about the actual work progress.

Dubey told reporters the Minister was happy with the progress of the Palatana project and underlined the need to meet the deadline. �If the plans go as per plan, the first unit will be opened by June 30�, he said.

Dey also visited the proposed site for 104 MW Manarchak power project in West Tripura district. According to NEEPCO sources, the first unit of Manarchak is expected to come by March 2013. The Rs 623 MW power project would be fully operational by July 2013.

Area Manager of NEEPCO Manoranjan Debnath told reporters, order has been placed for procuring turbine and generators for the much delayed project. �Heavy equipments meant for the project are expected to arrive here after monsoon�, he said.

While the State Government will buy 104 MW power from Manarchak, four Northeastern States � Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Manipur will receive power from the 726 MW Palatana power plant. To evacuate the power, North East Power Trading Company (NEPTC) has already started erecting transmission line from Palatana to Bongaigoan in Assam.
