Pahumara erosion assumes serious proportions

By Correspondent

PATACHARKUCHI, July 25 - The erosion of Pahumara river at Memberghat, about eight km from here, is posing a serious threat to the embankment near the concrete bridge over the river on the Kenduguri-Saoliabari PWD road.

A major portion of the embankment has already been washed away by the Pahumara river alongside the embankment and now the water level of the river has also risen considerably following heavy rains for the last few days. The embankment was protecting a large residential area comprising Medhikuchi, Hastinapur, Puthimari, Singimari etc. If the embankment is totally washed away, the huge area will be affected and seeing the present condition if the authority concerned fails to take immediate and adequate measures the river may wreak havoc in the huge area.

The erosion takes place as the river takes a direct turn in the area and the road-cum-embankment for the huge residential area is under serious threat by the river.
