Padma Shri awardee gets PMAY house

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Nov 7 - Padma Shri awardee Thanga Darlong has finally got a proper house to live in, thanks to the initiative taken by the Tripura Government.

As per a direction issued by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, the local administration of Kailasahar subdivision constructed a house for Darlong under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which was handed over to him on Tuesday.

Darlong, a tribal musician who plays Rosem a bamboo made flute-like musical instrument, was conferred with the Padma Shri Award in June this year.

Darlong, who has immense contribution to the field of music, was living in penury at his native place in Kailasahar subdivision. When Darlong met the Chief Minister in Agartala after he was selected for Padma Shri, he told Deb that he has no means to travel to Delhi to receive the award and does not even have a proper house. The Chief Minister then ordered the local authorities to build a house for the accomplished artiste under the PMAY scheme.
