Padma Shri awardee feted

AIZAWL, Feb 1 - Mizoram Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai felicitated World World II veteran-turned-journalist Lalbiakthanga Pachuau, one of the two Padma Shri awardees from Mizoram this year, at the Raj Bhavan here today.

The Governor said that after he learnt about Pachuau�s commendable services to society, he decided to host a tea party in his honour and congratulated him on receiving the fourth highest civilian honour in the country.

The Governor said Pachuau�s services were not only for the people of Mizoram and India, but to the democracy. He added that it was a proud moment for the people of Mizoram and the journalist community in particular.

Over the past 70 years, Pachuau (93) has served the country in many ways � from fighting the Japanese during the WW-II, starting his own newspaper after retirement and engaging in social activities.

After leaving the Army, he started writing for Mizo newspapers and went on to start Zoram Tlangau, his own newspaper, in 1970, which he is editing till date.
