Pacheti Mahotsav from September 16

DUNI, Sept 11 � The traditional Pacheti Mahotsav will be celebrated at the historic Khatara Satra with a four-day programme from September 16, said Gangaram Baishya, secretary of the Satra Management Committee.

The programme will begin with the hoisting of the religious flag by the president of the managing committee, Jiban Chandra Mahanta. MS Manivannan, Darrang DC, will open the gate of the Pacheti Mahotsav and its venue. Ramen Deka, MP, Mangaldai, is scheduled to inaugurate the gate of the book fair and exhibition. Former MP of Mangaldai constituency, Madhab Rajbongshi will release the souvenir, Khatara, to be brought out on the occasion.

Hemanta Deka, a member of the Darrang Zilla Parishad, and former Revenue Minister Zoiinath Sarma will inaugurate the cultural function and �Dadhimanthan Kristi� respectively.

The programmes on the remaining days will include the lighting of earthen lamps, naam prasanga, recitation of the holy Bhagavata, presentation of dadhimanthan kisti, aiotir naam, etc.

It may be mentioned here that the Pacheti Mohotsav of the Khatara Satra is the oldest festival of west Darrang area in which thousands of people from Darrang, Baksa, Kamrup, Udalguri and Sonitpur districts, cutting across castes, parties and religions, participate. Sale of fruit saplings, particularly those of the local coconut variety, is another noteworthy feature of the Pacheti Mahotsav.
