PA Sangma is a frustrated man, says Mukul

By Correspondent

SHILLONG, June 21 Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today described his mentor and presidential candidate Purno Agitok Sangma as a frustrated man reflected by his resignation from the NCP.

Its a complete reflection of his frustration (resignation from the NCP) because he has failed in State politics. He has failed as a legislator and therefore, it is reflected by his action, Sangma said about PA Sangma here today.

The former Lok Sabha Speaker has resigned from the NCP yesterday stating that he, as a tribal, has the backing of the Tribal Forum of India to run for the post of the President of India. PA Sangma said he wont back out of the aspirations of the tribal people to have one of their representatives at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The Meghalaya CM rubbished this claim saying that as a tribal PA Sangma should have first done more for the people he represented for years in Garo Hills before seeking the support of tribals from across the country.

PA Sangma represented Tura constituency in Garo Hills as its MP for eight consecutive terms from 1977. He vacated the seat for his daughter, Agatha Sangma in the last general elections. Purno Sangma now represents Tura as a member of the State Legislature.

I am sure with such a long innings in politics and with so much of power and privileges, he (Purno) could have done so much and make a difference in the lives of the tribal people, Mukul Sangma said.

Mukul Sangma and Purno Sangma share a bitter relationship and that is amply demonstrated in the heated debate in the State Legislative Assembly, both sides not hesitating to hit the other below the belt. Purno Sangma is ably backed by his two sons Conrad leader of the Opposition and James in these debates.
