Over 8,300 Bangladeshis arrested in Delhi in 5 years

New Delhi, July 11 (PTI): Over 8,300 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the national capital in the past five years for illegally staying here or indulging in criminal activities.

According to Delhi Police statistics, at least 8,360 illegal Bangladeshis were apprehended in the past five years with East Delhi and North Delhi topping the list with 4,310 and 1,710 arrests.

Central Delhi comes a close third with 1,349 Bangladeshis being apprehended for either staying here illegally or indulging in crime.

Another area where a large number of Bangladeshis were caught was South-West Delhi where 880 people were apprehended during the last five years.

"We are conducting regular raids in slums and other localities were there are concentration of such people. If we find someone staying here illegally, we take steps to deport them," a senior police official said.
