SILCHAR, Jan 21 - Days after his ousting from the BJP for passing inflammatory remarks on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, Pradip Dutta Roy, founder president of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students� Association voiced his unstinted support towards Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal�s effort to narrow down the chasm between the people of Barak and Brahmaputra valleys.
Claiming his unconditional support towards the Bill, Dutta Roy hailed the steps taken by the Chief Minister towards bridging the yawning gap of views between the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys.
�I extend my whole-hearted support towards the steps taken by the Chief Minister in bridging the gap between people of the same state. However, a vicious circle with vested interest is hell-bent on foiling his novel initiative,� Dutta Roy maintained.
He was quick to add that being born in Maligaon and having worked as an advocate in the Gauhati High Court for over three decades, he is not against the Assamese sentiments by any stretch of imagination.
�My statements regarding protests by students at Assam University was against the spin-doctored stance the young minds took on the Bill. I have no ill feeling against any linguistic sentiments. But I wonder why there was no voice raised demanding a Department of Assamese in the university when there is a Department of Bengali running at Gauhati and Dibrugarh universities.� However, the former student leader threw a stiff challenge to Dr Hiren Gohain and Akhil Gogoi not to spread misinformation and visit Barak Valley to feel the general pulse at the grassroots.
