Organisations awarded for voluntary service during Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI, July 6 - For rendering valuable voluntary service to lakhs of devotees during the just-concluded Ambubachi festival, a number of organisations were felicitated today by Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal.

At a meeting held at the DC�s office, the organisations that had arranged food and drinking water for the devotees were honoured with citations, gamosas and trophies.

Of the 13 organisations providing voluntary service during the five-day festival, the best organisations supplying food in the various camps included Maa Kamakhya Seva Trust (Kamakhya Railway Station camp), Jai Maa Kamakhya Nag Baba Seva Samity (Baripara), Sri Sukreshwar Baba Seva Samity (Pandu), Dispur Seva Samity (Naharbari) and Bol Bam Samity and Odalbakra Yuba Sangha (Fancy Bazar camp).

Similarly, Marwari Yuva Manch, Guwahati, and Jai Maa Kamakhya Seva Samity were felicitated for supplying drinking water in the camps.

Cleanliness and discipline were the parameters on which the awards were given to the organisations.

A number of other organisations offering voluntary services to the pilgrims were also felicitated. The district administration also thanked the voluntary organisations for helping in conducting the five-day Ambubachi festival in a smooth and orderly manner.
