Opp seeks Acharyas removal in RS

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Nov 30 - The Opposition parties today joined the chorus for removal of the Governor of Assam, PB Acharya, with BSP and Congress slamming the Centre for not initiating legal action against him.

Raising the issue during the discussion on Commitment to Indias Constitution as part of the 125th birth anniversary Celebration of Dr B R Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha, BSP chief Mayawati said that recently the Governor of Assam made an un-Constitutional statement that Hindustan is for Hindus and said that Muslims were free to go to Pakistan.

Despite such kind of un-Constitutional statement by the Governor, the Central Government is keeping mum over the issues, whereas it should have sacked the Governor and initiated strict legal action against him. So far no such action has been taken by the Central Government.

Is this the commitment of the Central Government towards upholding the Constitution, Mayawati asked.

In the Lok Sabha, KC Venugopal participating in the debate on intolerance, asked about the Central Governments reaction to the Assam Governors statement. He also criticised the Governor for the statement without taking his name.
