By Correspondent

NALBARI, Jan 8 - Opposition leader Debabrat Saikia on Friday visited the eviction site of Jaysagar area under Barkshetri Revenue Circle in Nalbari district to take stock of the situation.

The Opposition leader was accompanied by APCC spokesman Abdul Khalek and general secretary Pradyut Kumar Bhuyan. Later, addressing a press conference at Nalbari town, the Opposition leader alleged that the BJP Government evicted the indigenous people residing since the last 40 years. Some people were evicted from their myadi land for the simple reason that they are supporters of the Indian National Congress.

He further alleged that one Narayan Haloi of Lauthari near Jaysagar, who constructed a building on his myadi land at a cost of Rs 9 lakh by taking a loan from the SBI, was also demolished during the eviction drive. Saikia added that some people of the said village were not served eviction notice by the administration.

He claimed that the BJP Government was planning to settle foreign nationals after evicting the indigenous people. He strongly condemned the BJP Governments move to harass the indigenous people in the name of eviction. The illegal eviction drive carried out at Jaysagar area will be placed at the ensuing Assam Assembly session, he added.
