Opp is anti-people, says Gogoi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 29 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today described the Opposition as anti-people. The Opposition does not want the poor people to prosper, they want only the people like Jayanta Baruah to prosper, he said while commenting on the agitation of the Opposition inside the State Assembly during the passing of the Appropriation (No II) Bill, 2010. He was talking to the newspersons after the days session of the Assembly.

No where in India such things (resisting the Appropriation Bill) happened till date. But in Assam, the Opposition has done this today, he said, adding, This has exposed the real facet of the Opposition.

He also alleged that there was huge transaction of money while nominating Jayanta Baruah as the common candidate of the Opposition. With this act, the Opposition insulted the people of the State.

This is why the Congress resisted the attempt to send Baruah to the Rajya Sabha. The Congress will resist any further attempt to get Baruah elected, he said.

He also dared the Opposition to field Baruah in the ensuing Assembly election.

On the Oppositions charge that the Congress under his leadership had murdered

democracy, Gogoi said that many Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders were involved in the murder of many Congress leaders and today they are trying to dub the Congress as the murderer of democracy.

The Opposition should remember that the AGP leaders also harassed the CPI and the CPI-M, said Gogoi.
