By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 18 A meeting of the Opposition parties of Assam today observed that the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in elections posed a threat to Indian democracy.

The meeting, chaired by AGP working president Phani Bhushan Choudhury, claimed that the mandate of the people was not reflected properly in the EVMs in the recently concluded state Assembly polls.

AGP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan said that the meeting decided to mobilize public opinion against the use of EVMs in future elections. A delegation of the Opposition parties will also go to New Delhi to submit a representation before the Election Commission in this regard.

The meeting was attended by representatives of AGP, AIUDF, Ganashakti, NCP, CPI(ML), Samata party and Samajwadi Party.
