Opinion polls project BJP alliance win

NEW DELHI, March 30 - A week before the State goes to polls, various opinion poll reports suggest victory for the BJP though Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gets through with flying colours for his leadership.

The ABP News-Nielson opinion poll has given BJP and its alliance partners 78 seats, the Congress 36 seats, AIUDF 10 seat and others two seats.

The BJP-AGP-BPF alliance is getting clear majority in the Assam Assembly elections 2016, the TV news channel reported on Tuesday evening.

According to the opinion poll, the vote share of the Congress was 34 per cent, BJP 44 per cent and AIUDF 11 per cent.

On Tarun Gogoi�s tenure as Chief Minister, five per cent respondent voted as very good, 35 per cent described it as good, 33 per cent felt it was average and 22 per cent termed it as bad.

Meanwhile, the India TV-C Voter showed BJP and its allies winning 57 seats, seven short of majority. The opinion poll results, released on Wednesday, projected a close fight between the BJP and the Congress. The Congress with 44 seats was behind BJP and allies, though the AIUDF was projected to win 19 seat and others six.

Another opinion poll survey released by media agency AVC also showed BJP alliance winning the Assam elections. It projected Congress winning 40 seats, BJP 32-35 seat, AGP 8-10 and BPF 8-9 seats. The AIUDF was shown as winning 25 seats.

Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is visiting Assam on the second leg of his election campaign. He will be addressing public meetings in Digboi, Moran (from where former Union minister and Congress strongman Paban Singh Ghatowar is contesting) and at Mazgaon.
