NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Dec 5 - The team of Opaja Sonar Mati, the fourth film of Biju Phukan, made from Panigaon, Lakhimpur in 1972 paid rich tributes to the departed artist in a remembrance function held on Sunday.
The function, entitled Ga Ga Aji Gai Jaa was organised by Lakhimpur Cine Club in association with Panigaon Pragati Sangha, Mufossil Mirror and the AASU unit of Telahi-Kamalabaria was held at the auditorium of historic Pragati Sangha in Panigaon and was attended by many of the cast of that jubilee hit film which had won the President�s Award.
The function began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Biju Phukan by veteran artist and film maker Jiban Borah followed by floral tribute by prominent artists of the film and local dignitaries. Meena Bora, who was the co-actress against Biju Phukan in Opaja Sonar Mati recalled her experiences working with that great artist in the function. Paresh Bora, another actor of the film spoke in details about Biju Phukan while he was staying for one-and-a-half months in Panigaon during the shooting. Other artistes of Opaja Sonar Mati like Bhuban Dutta Bora, Birendra Nath Sarma, Tileswar Bora, Kinaram Gogoi and the secretary of Pragati Cine Production, Rokheswar Bhuyan and his assistant Paban Bhuyan also spoke about their experiences working with Late Biju Phukan and made emotional recollections. Ex-Principal Prafulla Sarma and the finance secretary of AASU, Krishna Das also spoke on that occasion while paying tributes to the great actor.
Earlier the welcome address was delivered by Pulin Bora, president of Panigaon Pragati Sangha and a retrospective account on Biju Phukan was presented by Farhana Ahmed, secretary, Lakhimpur Cine Club. Popular movie songs of Biju Phukan like Ei Akash Bor Bishal, Mon Hira Doi, Sendur Sendur and Gaga Aji Gai Jaa were presented by Narayan Das, Nistha Bordoli, Kumud Baruah and Saurabh Dutta. Some select scenes from the film Opaja Sonar Mati with Biju Phukan were screened on that occasion. The function was anchored by Kumud Baruah, secretary, North Lakhimpur Press Club and Panigaon Pragati Sangha and Sazzad Hussain, columnist and professor of Lakhimpur Commerce College and assisted by Debakrishna Dutta, producer Mufossil Mirror.
