DHEKIAJULI, March 29 � During a bandh call given by the NDFB(S) in Sonitpur district on March 27, CPM leader and Rajya Sabha member Sitaram Yechury visited Swahid Nagari here and campaigned for the CPM candidate, Khemraj Chetri.
A public meeting was held on the occasion under the presidentship of Sudhanat Paul in which Maneswar Bodo stated the objectives of the election meeting.
Addressing the CPM supporters, Yechuri flayed both the Congress and the BJP for their �anti-people� policies. He said that the Congress and the BJP are two sides of the same coin. Inside Parliament, members of both the parties have deceived the people. In the coalgate scam, for example, the Congress Government siphoned off precious resources, he alleged. At present, �loot raj� is on in the country, Yechury said, adding that the Government has exempted taxing rich industrialists, while financially exploiting the common men. He felt that the monthly salary of each labour should not be less than Rs 10,000.
He said that though the BJP is an Opposition party, it always compromises with the Congress. The country today needs a new government to further the collective interests of the common people. He discussed the problems of cultivators, besides the unemployment problem and the ST status issue.
Yechury demanded that the 2014 elections would yield a Third Front. Who will be the Prime Minister will be decided later, he said. Only the red flag will unite the country and its people, he added.
Sonitpur district CPM secretary Rabin Tamuly also delivered a speech. CPM candidate Khemraj Chetri, in his speech, said that the Government has damaged the public distribution system (PDS).
Though Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi often makes remarks about the magic of Mayong to check Modi, Chetri felt it was high time that the people of Assam showed their �magic� by casting their votes against the misdeeds of the Congress regime.
