GUWAHATI, May 18 - Dr Satyendra Kumar Choudhury and Prarthana Choudhury, two alumni of the centurion Cotton College, who are incidentally father and daughter in familial relation too, have come up with their new online violin-vocal video ahead of the 118th anniversary of this historic institution, which has now got itself upgraded into a university. The father-daughter duo are known for the rich rendering of the famous musical compositions of yesteryear.
This time, they have paid a special tribute to another Cotton alumnus, Dr Bhupen Hazarika. They said it is the first-of-its-kind �cover mash-up� that has brought together three generations of Cottonians.
The latest version of the musical mash-up of the father and daughter duo was released on Friday in the form of an online video at a function held at the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Creative Learning of the Department of Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Cotton University by Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Bhabesh Chandra Goswami.
The function was attended by renowned personalities from the fields of music and culture, intellectuals and fans of Dr Hazarika, besides the teachers and students of the university. The video is also available on YouTube.
The audio part was recorded and arranged by ace musician Rupam Talukdar, who used to accompany Dr Hazarika on the keyboard and accordion during his studio recordings and stage shows in India and abroad. The video part has been filmed by Nayan Bordoloi and Chandra Kumar Das from Walkfree Productions.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Choudhury said this was the third project on their part. It was very close to his heart. It marked a joint tribute to the �Bard of the Brahmaputra� Dr Bhupen Hazarika and also to their alma mater Cotton College.
Interacting with the audience, Prarthana said she grew up listening to the immortal creations of Dr Hazarika played by her father on his violin. Now, it is overwhelming to collaborate with him (her father) to express their common love for the legend (Dr Hazarika) and their alma mater, she said.
Dr Choudhury served Cotton College as a professor of chemistry for 33 years and he then served the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) as its director. He later joined the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) as its founder vice-chancellor.
He has a couple of solo violin albums to his credit. These albums are based on the songs of Dr Hazarika.
