ONGC plans to explore oilfields in 3 districts

NEW DELHI, May 25 � ONGC has finalised plans to drill exploratory wells in Golaghat, Sivasagar and Cachar districts.

The ONGC has plans to drill exploratory wells at Balichara and Pathimara in Cachar, Khoraghat and Kasomarigaon in Golaghat and Chariali, Banamali, Geleki, Lakwa and Safrai in Sivasagar districts, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, RPN Singh said in a Rajya Sabha reply.

Besides, ONGC has also plans to acquire 2 D seismic in Cachar district and 3 D seismic in Khubal area of Dhalai district in Tripura and in Rudrasagar, Demulgaon, Chariali, Geleki and Teok area of Sivasagar district, the Minister added.

The Oil India Limited would identify areas of future exploration of oil and gas based on the results of interpretation of the acquired seismic data, he said.

Recently, the Government of India has offered three exploration blocks in North Eastern States including two in Assam and one in Tripura under the eleventh round of New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP).

Out of these, both the blocks in Assam have been awarded, Singh said.
