One more dies in State flood

GUWAHATI, July 8 - The flood-induced death toll of the year has touched 40 on Wednesday with another casualty reported from Barpeta district. Meanwhile, the overall flood situation has been improving since the past few days and as per the daily flood bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) till this evening altogether 1,70,956 people were reeling under flood waters in 12 districts across the State.

The affected districts were Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Charaideo, Biswanath, Chirang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Goalpara, Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat and Tinsukia.

As many as 1,095 people of these districts are taking shelter in 35 relief camps.

Even though the situation is improving, the Brahmaputra in Jorhat and Dhubri, Disang in Sivasagar, Dhansiri in Golaghat and Jia Bharali in Sonitpur were still flowing above the danger level.

Floodwaters also affected 13 camps in Kaziranga National Park and 12 camps in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary.

In the past 24 hours, incidents of flood-triggered erosions have been reported from Majuli and Bongaigaon districts.
