GUWAHATI, June 1 Investigation into the Gadapani Pathak murder seems to have gained momentum with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) finally arresting the driver of the Bolero car from which the deceased was abducted together with his subordinate engineer Faizul Islam.

Faizul Islam, who was released a few days back by the abductors, was also brought to Guwahati for questioning.

The driver, Nur Islam, was today arrested from Bongaigaon and later remanded to seven days CID custody.

CID sources claimed that the prima facie evidences had indicated towards the involvement of the driver in the abduction and subsequent killing of Pathak. The needle of suspicion has also been pointed towards executive engineer Faizul Islam, who might also be arrested, said CID sources.

Questioning is on and very soon we should be able to come to the logical conclusion of the case. It is still very difficult to categorically state the real intent behind the crime, sources added. Pathak, a superintending engineer with the Agriculture department, was abducted by unidentified miscreants on May 2. His bullet-ridden body was recovered the next day.
