One arrested on charges of child trafficking

DIGBOI, March 15 - In a development that could blow the lid off a child trafficking racket thriving here, one Munmi Dey (35), wife of late Sanjib Dey of Digboi Borbil No. 2 under Digboi Police Station, was arrested by police following an FIR lodged by one Reshma Begam, mother of a minor, identified as Rukshar Begum (12), who was allegedly kidnapped by one Sunu Dey from her residence on Sunday night.

The accused Sunu Dey has been reportedly staying with Munmi Dey who was residing in a rented house belonging to one Dinanath Dutta at Borbil No. 2 in Digboi.

According to the FIR lodged against accused Dey, she was directly involved in the kidnapping of the minor student from her residence. Following an investigation, police gathered sufficient evidence including various obscene photographs of her own and obscene mobile clippings.

Meanwhile, the residents of the Borbil area alleged that she is running a child trafficking racket and supplying young girls for making easy money. �She has sold the minor girl through Sunu Dey, her accomplice, and was trying to send her out of Digboi,� alleged a member of the Borbil Muslim Society.

The local people also alleged that the arrested accused is well connected with the political circle here. The local people of the area have demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits. The people also lambasted the local administration for its failure to tackle such anti-social activities. Meanwhile, a case to this effect has been registered with the local police station.
