Old notes of Rs 7.38 lakh recovered, two arrested

SILCHAR, March 18 - In a major catch, Cachar police recovered old currency notes to the tune of Rs 7,38, 500 from a place at Kalain Bazar on Friday from the possession of two Mizo persons.

Cachar SP Rakesh Rousan told media persons on Friday that the two arrested persons have been identified as C Lalthanmuawia and Lal Tansana, residents of Aizwal. �We recovered banned currency notes of Rs 7,13,500 of 500 denominations and Rs 25,000 of 1000 denominations,� the SP said.

Meanwhile, the SP informed that law and order situation in the district is under control and police is keeping a close vigil on the movement of groups and vehicles coming in and moving out of the district.

On the other hand, in another case, two persons involved in various cases of extortion have been arrested from Katigorah in Cachar district. The arrested have been identified as Kahiruddin Khan and Kamal Uddin Barbhuiyan, residents of Kurkuri village of the constituency against case numbers 140/2017 and 70/2017 U/S 387/506 of the IPC. Police informed that several mobile sets and SIM cards to demand money from people were recovered from them.
